5 Signs Your Creative Soul Is Trying to Speak

There’s a certain kind of restlessness that doesn’t show up in big, dramatic ways.

It’s quieter than burnout.
Softer than exhaustion.
But it hums under the surface like an itch you can’t quite scratch.

For me, it recently showed up in the strangest way:
I was suddenly obsessed with the idea of painting something green.
Not just any green—bold, rich, magnificent green.

So what did I do?

I painted my bathroom vanity.

At 10 p.m.
On a school night.
With an unapologetic sense of YES in my whole body.

The photo isn't great but I did take it at 10pm! And I want you to see it in hopes the color would make you super happy too.

It wasn’t about the vanity.
It was about finally listening to a part of me that had been quietly whispering:

“I need color.
I need life.
I need to feel like me again.”

Here Are 5 Signs Your Creative Soul Might Be Whispering, Too:

1. You feel weirdly emotional walking through the craft aisle. Or seeing other people make things. Or even scrolling Pinterest. It’s not jealousy—it’s longing.

2. You’re craving color. You suddenly want to repaint a room, rearrange your bookshelves, or buy markers even though you “don’t need them.”

3. You’re mentally tired… but creatively restless. You’re exhausted from life, but the thought of creating something (anything!) makes your heart flutter.

4. You keep saying “when things settle down,” but they never do. You’ve been waiting for the perfect time to make art or journal again. And you’re starting to realize—if you don’t make space, it won’t magically appear.

5. You miss yourself. This one’s quiet, but it’s powerful. You miss the version of you who used to create for the joy of it. Not for a deadline. Not for anyone else. Just because it felt good.

You’re Not Alone in This.

If any of those made you nod, or tear up a little, you’re not broken. You’re not behind. You’re just ready.

Your creative soul hasn’t disappeared.
She’s just been waiting for you to hear her again.

And trust me… she’s worth listening to.
